Victoria Falls can be a one- or multi-night addition depending on your pace, season and whether you want river activities, lodge time or nearby safari experiences. I usually recommend two nights — enough to see the Falls from the best viewpoints, enjoy a sunset cruise and not feel rushed.
Where you stay affects logistics and the feel of the visit. The Zimbabwe side (Victoria Falls town) offers the classic panoramic views and easy town access; the Zambian side (Livingstone) is quieter, with closer-up views and a more laid-back feel. Your choice also affects flight routing — I look at the whole itinerary before recommending a side.
Sunset cruises and river experiences can be a major part of the stay. Beyond the viewpoints: Zambezi sunset cruises, guided walks of the rainforest trails, and for the adventurous, white-water rafting or a helicopter flight over the Falls.
Water levels change dramatically through the year. The Falls are most powerful roughly March–May after the rains; by October–November levels are low and some sections can run nearly dry — but visibility is clearer and the Devil's Pool experience is possible. There is no bad month, only different Falls.
Nearby safari areas can be worthwhile, but I look at what wildlife experiences are already included elsewhere in the itinerary. The Falls pair most naturally with Botswana's Chobe region — an easy combination by road or short flight.
A Falls stop can also work as a change of pace between safari regions — a couple of slower days with a great view before the next early-morning game drive.
